4. Drug & Alcohol Policy
Boyle Highways TM has a zero tolerance regarding Drugs & Alcohol. We carry out random Oral Drug/Alcohol Tests. Any operative who fails or refuses a test will be stood down for 28days. After that time, the operative is asked to attend and take another test, if this test is passed then the operative can recommence work with us. If the test is failed again then the operative is removed from our records and can no longer work for Boyle Highways TM. Not only are you putting yourself at risk, but you are endangering the lives of the Public. Please read and sign the attached Policy on the Misuse of Alcohol & Drugs.
5. PPE (Protective Personal Equipment)
Protective Clothing consists of: Steal toe cap ankle boots, Hi-Visibility Jackets/Vests/T-shirts, Gloves, Glasses and Hard hats (this is a minimum standard) a Headtorch is mandatory for working at nighttime — All PPE MUST always be worn, regardless of what those around you are doing.
Full PPE must always be worn including to and from site, anyone caught not doing this will no longer be able to work for us.
PPE can be brought from our office, price and details are below. PPE must be paid for prior to it being handed over to you.

6. Dress Code
Representing Boyle Highways TM out on site means upholding high standards, both in appearance and behaviour. Here's a quick summary of what's expected:
- PPE & Uniform: Always wear your issued PPE and uniform as required—keep them clean and presentable. Your uniform is part of our brand image.
- Dress Code: No bare chests at any time. Dress appropriately and professionally; your appearance reflects the company.
- Conduct: No bad language or disrespectful behaviour towards members of the public, clients, or colleagues. Professionalism is non-negotiable.
- Brand Representation: Remember, how you look and act on site is a direct reflection of Boyle Highways TM. Our image is your image.

7. Documentation
Mandatory Documents Before You Can Be Sent to Work:
- Proof of ID - Valid Driving Licence or Passport
- Proof of Address - Recent Utility Bill, Council Tax Bill, or Driving Licence (must be a different document from your Proof of ID)
- Eligibility to Work in the UK - This could be a share code, visa, or other official documentation as appropriate
- Lantra Certificate/Card - Proof of your current Lantra training/certification
Important:
We cannot assign you to work or provide your details to our clients until we have received and verified all of the above. This is a strict requirement to meet both legal obligations and our client's standards.

8. What Happens after you complete your Course?
Assessment & Certification:
- If your course includes assessments (like live or on-site assessments), you'll need to complete those as required.
- Once you've successfully passed all assessments, you'll receive your official certification or card for that qualification.
Submit Documentation:
Make sure you provide copies of your new qualification/certificates to the office so your records are up to date. This ensures you can be allocated to jobs that match your new skills.
Web App Access:
- You'll receive or update your login details for the Boyle Highways TM web app.
- Log in and check that your qualifications are listed correctly—this affects which jobs you can see and request.
Occupational Health (if not already done):
- If required, book and complete your “Fit to Work” occupational health assessment (every 3–5 years).
- Submit your medical certificate to the office if you already have one.
Requesting Work:
- With your new qualifications, you'll see more job opportunities in the “Open jobs” section of the web app.
- You can now request to work on jobs you're qualified for. The more qualifications you have, the more options you'll have.
Induction (if new to the company):
- If you're a new starter, you'll need to complete a company induction before your first shift.
PPE Check:
- Ensure you have full ORANGE PPE (available for purchase from the office if needed).
Start Working:
- Once all the above is complete, you can be allocated to jobs.
- Boyle Highways TM will aim to give you up to 5 shifts per week, depending on demand and your qualifications.
Tip:
Keep your training and medical certificates up to date and let the office know about any new qualifications. This helps maximise your work opportunities!
9. What to do if late or ill?
If you are going to be late for any reason, YOU MUST inform us in plenty of time to call the client. We will monitor lateness and if there are continuous incidents we may choose not to offer you work.
If you are ill YOU MUST inform us in plenty of time via the web app to inform the client. Please call in later in the day to let us know of your availability for the next day. Keeping in constant contact could safeguard your position. If you fail to inform us of your condition, we might have to make the decision to pull you off the assignment and replace you. This could result in you not working until another assignment becomes available.

10. Holiday
We ask that you give two weeks' notice for holiday to be taken, using the Holiday section on the Boyle Booking System.
11. Site Induction
Site Induction/Briefing:
The client may provide you with a site induction or briefing before you begin work. This will outline what's expected of you and cover site-specific rules and safety procedures.
Site rules and specific instructions will be included in your job booking notes or as an attached file—always review these carefully before attending site.
12. Your Responsibilities on Site
Traffic Management Equipment:
You are responsible for all traffic management equipment assigned to your job.
- Make sure all equipment is present, set up correctly, and maintained throughout your shift.
Adhering to Client Rules:
Every client may have different rules and regulations.
- You must follow these at all times to ensure your own safety and the safety of others.
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment):
- You must always wear the correct PPE as per Chapter 8 standards (full ORANGE PPE) while on site.
13. Health & Safety Reporting
Reporting Issues:
If you notice any health & safety breaches or unsafe conditions:
- Report them immediately using the “Near Miss Report” section in the Boyle Bookings System (web app).
- You can make an initial verbal report, but it must be followed up in writing (with details like dates, times, and a description) before Boyle Highways TM can take action.
- Your safety is a top priority—never hesitate to report concerns.
14. Audits & Compliance
Random Site Audits:
Boyle Highways TM conducts random site audits to:
- Ensure all operatives are following safety protocols and company standards.
- Check that PPE and equipment standards (Chapter 8) are being met.
Summary Checklist:
- Review site rules/job notes before attending.
- Attend and pay attention to the client's site induction/brief.
- Take responsibility for all assigned equipment.
- Always wear full ORANGE PPE.
- Adhere to all client and site-specific rules and regulations.
- Promptly report any health & safety concerns through the correct channels.
- Be prepared for random site audits.

16. Boyle Bookings System
Complete All Paperwork:
Use the Boyle Bookings system (www.boylebookings.co.uk) to fill in all required job paperwork. This includes job start/end times, any site notes, and other required forms.
Upload Timestamped Photos:
- Take photos using the GPS Map Camera app to capture both the time and your location.
- Upload these photos to the Boyle Bookings system as evidence that you were on site and that the site was set up safely and correctly.
User Guide Provided:
You'll receive a User Guide explaining exactly how to use the system, upload photos, and complete paperwork. If you're unsure, check the guide or ask the office for help.
Signing In & Out
Always Sign In and Out via the App:
- You must use the Boyle Bookings app to sign in when you arrive and sign out when you leave.
- It is also critical for ensuring you get paid for your work.
- This is essential for proving your attendance and time on site to clients.
Important Reminders
No Sign-In/Out = No Pay:
If you don't use the app to sign in and out, there's a risk you won't be paid for that job—so don't skip this step!
Photo Evidence is Mandatory:
Photos with GPS and timestamp are required as proof for both safety and attendance.

In summary:
Always complete your paperwork and upload GPS/timestamped photos on the Boyle Bookings system, and make sure you sign in and out of every shift using the app. This protects you, helps us support you, and is the only way to guarantee you'll get paid.
17. Payment of Wages
Pay Day:
Wages are paid into your bank account every Friday. If there's a bank holiday, the payment day might shift slightly.
Pay Cycle:
You are paid a week in arrears. This means the hours you work from Monday to Sunday will be paid the following Friday.
Deductions & Charges
Admin Charge:
There is a weekly admin charge of £12.50 deducted from your pay.
Tax (CIS):
Boyle Highways TM operates under the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), so tax will be deducted from your pay before you receive it.
UTR Number Required:
You must provide your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number.
- If you don't provide a UTR, you'll be taxed at the higher rate of 30%.
- With a valid UTR, you'll be taxed at the standard CIS rate (usually 20%).
- CIS Subcontractor Statement

Monthly Statement:
Each month, you'll receive a CIS Subcontractor Statement. - This will show how much tax has been deducted for that month.
Important Reminders:
- Make sure you send your correct bank details to the office to avoid payment delays.
- If your bank details change, let the office know immediately.
- Get your UTR number sorted as soon as possible to avoid higher tax deductions.
18. Safety at Street works & Road works
Before YOU start — General
Is high visibility clothing being worn by everyone on site? Are all signs, barriers, cones and lighting correctly placed? Are signs obscured by bends, hills or dips in the road? Will the site be safe at night or in wind, fog, snow or rain? Are parked vehicles, trees, street furniture obscuring signs? Is there enough road width remaining for two-way traffic? Is traffic control with shuttle lane working required? Are there any specific risks requiring special guarding? Has allowance been made for delivery and removal of material? Is the contact number displayed on the information board? Are advanced signs needed?
Before YOU start — Pedestrians
Are pedestrians given protected routes which are wide enough? Are pedestrian routes clearly indicated? If the footway is closed, is there an alternative route? If so, is it clearly marked? Are there any special hazards for disabled pedestrians? If so, how can they be made safe? If a temporary footway in the road is to be used, are ramps to the kerb provided where necessary?
Before YOU start — Traffic
Is the type of traffic control right for work? Traffic & speed? Has any misleading permanent signs and road markings been covered? Is there safe access to adjacent premises? Have you a copy of portable traffic signs site approval? Have you considered the needs of cyclists and horse riders?
When work is in progress
Does signing and guarding meet changing conditions? Are signs, cones and lamps kept clean? Can traffic control arrangements be improved to reduce traffic delays as conditions change? Are the carriageway and footway being kept clear of mud and surplus equipment? Are materials that are left on verges or lay-bys being properly guarded and lit?
When work is suspended
Will checks be made on signing, lighting & guarding? Has the arrangement been changed to reflect conditions?
When work is finished
Have all signs, cones, barriers and lamps been removed? Have any covered permanent signs been restored? Have the authorities been told the work is complete?
