M1M2 RTMO (Registered Traffic Management Operative)
Course Overview
The M1M2 RTMO qualification is for anyone wanting to become a Registered Traffic Management Operative for single carriageway works up to 60mph. This course is open to all learners who have completed the prerequisite qualifications in the training pathway.
Duration: 1 day per assessment (minimum 3 assessments required)
Cost:
- 1st Assessment: £210 (Ex VAT)
- Logbook: £95 (Ex VAT) - required purchase
- Skills upgrade charge applied to 3rd assessment upon completion
Centrebase 1st Assessment
1. Theoretical Assessment
Written or computer-based test covering:
- Principles of temporary traffic management for single carriageways up to 60mph
- Health and safety requirements
- Use of equipment and proper site setup
- Legal and compliance obligations
- Minimum pass mark as specified by the accrediting body
2. Practical Assessment
On-site demonstration of competence, typically observed by an accredited assessor.
The candidate must:
- Correctly set out, maintain, and remove a temporary traffic management scheme on a single carriageway up to 60mph
- Demonstrate safe use of all required equipment
- Complete a risk assessment and implement control measures
- Show effective communication with other operatives and supervisors
- Respond appropriately to simulated incidents or emergencies
3. Portfolio of Evidence
Candidates may be required to submit a portfolio of evidence, including:
- Photographic or video evidence of site work
- Completed risk assessments and site documentation
- Supervisor or assessor witness testimonies
4. Final Review and Certification
- The assessor reviews all evidence and confirms the candidate's competence
- Upon successful completion of minimum 3 assessments at minimum 2 weeks apart for each assessment, the operative is registered as an RTMO for M1/M2
- The operative receives a certificate and is entered onto the national register of qualified traffic management operatives
- Logbook charge and skills upgrade charge to be added to 3rd assessment once completed

- Correct use of signage, cones, barriers, and associated equipment
